Mountains Youth Services Team Inc (MYST) is a dynamic not-for-profit organisation providing early intervention services for disadvantaged young people with complex needs aged 12-24 years.

MYST’s programs are varied and often tailored to meet the needs of disadvantaged young people, such as: youth drop-in centres as a first point of call for young people experiencing low self-esteem, trauma, youth suicide, drug and alcohol as well as working with schools re disengagement, counselling and much more.It is an exciting opportunity to make a difference and direct an organisation that is highly regarded in the youth sector.

You will be joining an enthusiastic Board and energetic small team of employees who are committed to improving the lives of young people experiencing stress, poverty and a wide range of complex mental health issues that challenge young people today.

The Board provides strategic, risk and governance oversight to the Manager and Executive team of the organisation.

We are looking to appoint strategic directors to continue our strong focus on improving the lives of young people aged 12-24 years.

In this regard the Board takes a skills based approach to Director appointments and is particularly interested in hearing from candidates with the following criteria:

These roles are voluntary positions. The Board currently meets monthly alternating between face-to-face and teleconferences with face-to-face split between Springwood and Sydney. The Board meets 10 months of the year.

Essential Criteria:

  • Superior communication and effective meeting skills.
  • Understanding of the not-for-profit sector
  • An understanding of finance
  • A genuine passion to contribute to the growth and sustainability of a youth organisation.

Desirable:

  • Experience in a Community Care Service either as Director, CEO or senior manager providing measurable quality program delivery and social impact, or
  • Experienced in fundraising and marketing either as a Director or senior manager in growing an organisation through awareness, grant applications and measurable social impact outcomes aligned to strategic direction, or
  • Demonstrated experience in the financial, audit and risk management areas of an organisation and appropriate qualifications.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of board director role.
  • Experience in Board sub-committees.
  • Prior governance experience, including aspects of WHS, the ability to operate strategically and engage diverse set of stakeholders.
  • Member or graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors or Governance Institute of Australia.
  • Working with Children Check – if not current, prepared to apply.
