About us:

The Melbourne Community Toy Library (MCTL) is a toy lending service for families within the City of Melbourne. We are a not-for-profit organisation with an entirely volunteer committee. We currently have two branches - Carlton and Kensington.

The Project:

We have identified a need for a toy library in the Docklands area and have support from several interested parties. We just need to make it happen.

Skills required:

No experience required- just spare time and people skills. General email skills would be useful for communication, however we have volunteers to support you if this is not your strength. Being able to talk and connect with other stakeholders is more important to us than your typing speed!

As part of your role you would help to:

  • Find a suitable location in Docklands (initial research has been done, it’s time to narrow the field)
  • Network with City of Melbourne staff and Councillors for their support
  • Find other potential partners and stakeholders
  • Negotiate a lease for the new space
  • Manage promotional events
  • Coordinate the move - investigate storage options and arrange toy deliveries from our existing branches.

Timeline:

This role commences immediately, with an aim to sign a lease within 4 months. We estimate this role will require 4-5 hours per week, for 4-6 months.

Why a Toy Library?

Here are some of the big benefits of a toy library:

  • Reduced waste
  • Reduced consumerism
  • Change toys based on child’s interest
  • Move through child’s development stages
  • Toys take up less space in an apartment
  • Provide a chance for families to meet and form a local support network
You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
