CRS is a completely volunteer organisation that provides “good neighbour” support to asylum seekers and refugees in the ACT.  CRS is seeking new member/volunteers to join our organisation. Member/volunteers are invited to offer support to the asylum seeker individuals and families supported by CRS as needs arise. This support can include:

• One-off  or short term instances of direct assistance such as help moving house, assistance with job search, provision of needed household items, assistance with transport to an appointment, garden working bees, accessing sporting opportunities, provision of tutoring to a school student etc.
• Longer term good neighbour support to an individual or family. Volunteers are matched with a family and provide social support and help to settle into life in Canberra
• Assistance with a fundraising event, a particular administrative task or project, committee roles.

All volunteers are supported by the CRS committee and the CRS volunteer support coordinators. No prior experience or skills are required, just an interest in helping asylum seekers and refugees in our Canberra community. We ask that interested volunteers join CRS.  The cost is $40 for a two year membership. These membership fees cover all our organisational costs such as insurance and auditing so that all funds raised by CRS go directly to assisting asylum seekers and refugees in need in our community.  For more information, please go to the Canberra Refugee Support website. Once you have submitted a membership application you will be invited to an information session and you will be added to our membership list. When we need volunteers we send a request to the membership list explaining what’s needed and members can offer to help.
