Neighbourhood Cooks Moreland is a meal-sharing and community connection program that matches people who like to cook with older people in the Moreland community. Volunteers travel to an older persons home to share an extra portion of their home-cooked meal on a regular basis, including a weekly, fortnightly or monthly basis. Whilst the COVID19 physical distancing requirements are in place and the meal share aspects cannot proceed, volunteers will receive training about supporting people to engage in activities via phone and virtually.

The primary aim of the program is to provide social support for older people who live in their own homes and to provide a nutritious home cooked meal for those that may be finding it a challenge to cook. By providing social interaction and a home cooked meal, volunteers will support and encourage older people to achieve their social goals, including access to improved food options.

In return, volunteers will be making new connections, learning new skills and supporting the community they live in. Applicants must be effective communicators with the ability to prepare nutritious home cooked meals. We ask that volunteers commit for at least one year, as we have found that this gives our volunteers the best chance to learn skills, become confident in their role and support the program.

Uniting is committed to equal opportunity and ensuring the workplace is reflective of the community. We encourage people from different backgrounds to apply, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and people with a disability

Uniting is a child safe organisation and is committed in everyday practice to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children, at all times. As a ‘child safe’ organisation, volunteering with Uniting is subject to a satisfactory national (and international where relevant) police check and Working With Children Check (in Victoria) and/or Working With Vulnerable People Check (in Tasmania) prior to commencement in any service or undertaking.
