Friend of The Family Volunteer

UnitingCare - Queensland
Logo for UnitingCare - Queensland

We are looking for individuals who have a strong interest in helping others and working with children and families.

Our “Friend of the Family” volunteers need to have an open mind, great communication and listening skills, a non-judgemental approach and a willingness to learn. Volunteers must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries, be responsible in communicating any concerns, be reliable and mature, and be physically able to interact with children. IFSS also requires that our volunteers hold a current QLD open driver's licence, be eligible for a Blue Card, and be aged over 21years.

Our volunteers are valued members of a dedicated care team, with Caseworker carrying primary responsibility for the case. We are seeking volunteers who have time and energy to commit to the role on a weekly basis (business hours) over a minimum 9 months. Volunteers utilise a business vehicle for home and community visits.

To enable volunteers to support families they access a volunteer coordinator, attend training and regular supervision. Referrals are matched based on availability, skills and interests, and relevant risk and safety measures are followed.

The “Friend of the Family” role is ideal for parents and grandparents who have knowledge and skills to share. Volunteering with IFSS provides opportunity for new learnings, building networks and meeting new people, and giving back to the community in a welcoming and supportive workplace. IFSS is able to provide a volunteer reference following 3 months of active volunteering with the organisation.

This is a great opportunity to:

▪ Experience the joy of making a meaningful difference ▪ Gain invaluable workplace experience ▪ Improve mental health and personal well being

You will need to be 20 years or older, hold a current QLD drivers licence, and be eligible to apply for a Bluecard. The role is ideal for volunteers who would like to  build their skills in human services, draw from your own experiences and knowledge, link with networks, meeting new people, and contributing to the community.

UnitingCare values diversity in our organisation and we have some principles in place that will help to promote both inclusion and access.  If you have any other accessibility requirements, please discuss these at the time of interview.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
