SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES: GMI is currently seeking applications for new board members. We are seeking a board where members will complement each other’s skill set. We welcome applications from individuals with change management experience and any of the following skills, or has something unique to contribute (these are not prerequisites or limited):·

  • knowledge/understanding of issues affecting women and children experiencing domestic/family violence·
  • an understanding of Governance and/or previous Board experience·
  • financial management (including property management and investment)·
  • strategic and business planning·
  • knowledge of risk management including occupational health and safety·
  • knowledge of legislative compliance for not-for-profit organisations·        experience working with culturally diverse communities·
  • leadership experience·
  • human resources·
  • marketing experience

Background Georgina Martina Inc (GMI) is a not for profit community-based organisation providing support and emergency accommodation for women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. Georgina Martina Inc operates high security women’s refuges and family violence services. Our service delivery model focuses on holistic support for women impacted by domestic and family violence, mental health and substance abuse. We do this by providing:

  • Crisis and medium-term accommodation
  • Culturally sensitive support; and
  • Assistance with accessing services.

Our services support:

  • Women and children particularly those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
  • Women and children of all ages
  • Women without children
  • Older women
  • Women with mental health issues
  • Women with substance abuse issues
  • Women and children who have difficulties in gaining access to mainstream services, such as those without permanent residency.

Key Duties

  • Undertake induction and training procedures as provided by the Board
  • Consider, debate, and vote on issues before the Board on the basis of the best interests of the organisation only
  • Comply with the rules, policies, and standing orders of the organisation
  • Review and approve the organisation’s Strategic Plan, and other consequential documents (Business Plan, Marketing Plan, etc)
  • Attend all meetings, or, if unavoidable, apologise in advance for absence
  • Where Board papers are circulated in advance of the Board meeting, read papers and consider issues before the meeting
  • Contribute to the discussion and resolution of issues at meetings and otherwise as appropriate
  • Serve on Board committees as required
  • Review and approve the organisation’s systems for financial control and risk management

Requirements

  • An understanding and commitment to the vision and philosophy of Georgina Martina Inc.
  • Has qualities, skills and experience that would enhance the effectiveness of the current Board
  • Must identify as a woman over the age of 18.
