Student Outreach Coordinator

Out for Australia

About us

Our mission is to provide visible role models, mentors, content and targeted support to aspiring LGBTIQA+ professionals and to strengthen the sense of community among professionals and students.

Our vision is to create an Australia where every LGBTIQA+ student and aspiring professional is confident to be their authentic self in workplaces which celebrate diversity.

About the opportunity

Students are a key target audience for OFA. LGBTIQ students* may face several anxieties about entering the workplace for the first time, and are looking for support and role models to help with this transition. We want to make sure OFA is reaching and engaging meaningfully with students. OFA’s offerings are effectively reaching and meaningfully engaging with students. This requires targeted efforts.

The role of Outreach Coordinator is to drive engagement of OFA’s offerings with students.

Key outcomes include:

  • Increase brand awareness and positive perception of OFA amongst students
  • Increase number of students in our mentoring program
  • Increase number of students that attend OFA events (whether on or off campus)
  • Increase number of student role models highlighted on OFA’s communication channels

The role is largely autonomous, as you will be given great scope in developing outreach activities that utilise your existing networks. The role requires a deep understanding of Out for Australia’s strategy and mentoring program, as you will need to be an ambassador for Out for Australia and are often the first point of contact for many people as they discover Out for Australia.

* Students in this context refers to tertiary level students (i.e. university and TAFE)\, not high school students

Responsibilities

  • Manage Out for Australia’s relationship with at least one University (most likely your campus or alumni) - both with the Faculties and with LGBTIQ societies on campus
  • Develop and foster relationships with university students in your state, and be able to nominate student speakers to speak on panels at OFA events
  • Attend university events (e.g. Orientation weeks and queer events) to spread awareness of Out for Australia
  • Assist in hosting an OFA event (e.g. a professional development workshop) at a university campus
  • Provide ideas for communicatication mechanisms that will effectively reach students (e.g. flyer design, social media post ideas, and other more creative ideas)
  • Understand Out for Australia’s strategy and be a positive ambassador for the organisation
  • Participate in State Team meetings and assist with miscellaneous projects where possible
