These practical roles suit individuals with an interest in the animal care and conservation  industry. Volunteers provide practical animal husbandry assistance to our keeping staff including food preparation, cleaning, waste disposal, enrichment and exhibit maintenance.

If successful in your application, you will be invited to a mandatory interview day on Wednesday 11 March or Thursday 12 March 2020. If you are unavailable to attend this interview day, you will be ineligible to proceed with this years recruitment.

For the best possible chance of progressing to the interview stage, please read all information and the attached division descriptions carefully.

Where can I Volunteer?

Volunteer positions are available in the following 11 divisions, you may apply for up to 2 of the following:

• Australian Fauna
• Backyard to Bush
• Birds
• Bird Show
• Carnivores
• Herpetofauna
• Marine Mammals
• Primates & Ungulates
• Taronga Wildlife Hospital
• Taronga Institute of Science & Learning
• Wildlife Retreat at Taronga

The purpose of the role

• Assist with all aspects of animal husbandry·
• Assist with food preparation and cleaning·
• Assist with exhibit cleaning, waste disposal and maintenance

Position details

• Positions are available every day of the week and weekends
• Positions require a commitment of 1 day per week or 1 day per fortnight, read the divisions description document attached for details for each division
• All divisions require a commitment of 12 months
• Positions require a good level of fitness and stamina, and the ability to work through inclement weather on a steep site
• All Taronga Keeper Volunteers are required to provide a WWC (Working with Children Check), join Zoo Friends (see below details), complete online e-learning modules and attend induction and training in April (dates to be confirmed)

How to apply

To apply you must complete the application form on the Taronga Zoo website All further details can be found on the website along with a helpful Division Description document so you can select your most preferred animal care division.

• You MUST complete the application form in full addressing both the common selection criteria AND divisional specific selection criteria
• You may select UP TO 2 divisions you would like to apply for in order of your preference
• You will need to address the common criteria as well as the divisional criteria for your chosen division/s, please remember that failure to address the selection criteria will result in your application for that division being disregarded

Costs

Successful applicants will be required to pay a Volunteer Programs fee of $104.00. If you require financial assistance, get in touch.
