Outline of the role: Cancer Council NSW is a community funded, community focused cancer charity dedicated to working towards a cancer-free future. There are things that we can all do every day to help make this happen.

Relay for Life is a fun and moving event that raises vital funds for the Cancer Council NSW’s research, prevention, information and support services. We are looking for a committee member to help make Great Lakes’ Relay for Life the best it can be.

When you become a member of the RFL Committee, you take on great responsibility. You will have the opportunity to assist in producing an event that can have a positive impact on the lives of thousands of people in your community and throughout the country.

Supporting the Northern Community Team, your key accountabilities will include: • Attending monthly committee meetings in the lead up to the event and more frequent committee meetings in the 2 months before the event • Working and communicating regularly with other committee members to achieve the overall targets for the event including participant registration, team registrations, fundraising, sponsorship and community support • Responding to emails and calls from other committee members and any other requests from the Committee Chair • Promoting Relay to your networks including friends, family and co-workers • Assist with recruiting teams, Survivors and Carers to the event.

Our ideal volunteer will have: • Have knowledge of the local area in which the Relay is held • Have strong written and verbal communication skills • Be able to communicate within a team environment • Have good organisational skills, including punctuality • Commitment to Cancer Council’s vision of a cancer free future • Be willing to obtain or already have a Working With Children Check Number

Desirable (but not essential) • Previous events experience • Previous exposure to the not-for-profit industry or working with volunteers
