About the opportunity

The Deputy Director will work closely with the NSW Director to support and lead the NSW team.

The two primary functions of state Out for Australia teams are to (1) hold events in the state which showcase visible role models, thought leadership and create safe spaces for aspiring young LGBTIQ+ professionals to be their most authentic selves in the workplace, and (2) foster relationships in our state community through our outreach strategy, particularly with universities and key local community partners, both to better understand our community, and to promote Out for Australia, in order to successfully support our events and to promote our mentoring program.

The Deputy Director will lead a small team of volunteers in events space. This team is primarily focused on running regular events, with each Events Coordinator leading their own event. The Deputy Director will also assist in general team support and fill-in for the State Director where require.

About you

  • Reliability and good communication, especially in team-working environments
  • A “can-do” attitude, keenness, openness to learn new skills, and to apply your existing ones
  • Ability to take initiative
  • Good time-management and personal organisation
  • Experience in events management (if looking to lead events strategy)
  • Leadership potential and strong emotional intelligence (experience in volunteer management highly desirable)

Responsibilities Your responsibilities will likely include:

  • Manage and support a small team of dedicated and passionate volunteers
  • Maintain and develop professional community, corporate and university relationships
  • Understand Out for Australia’s strategy and be a positive ambassador for the organisation by role modelling Out for Australia’s values, vision, mission and ethics
  • Attend (unless otherwise arranged) all state events and relevant State Team meetings (1 per month) and 1-on-1 meetings with each of your direct reports (1 phone check-in per fortnight)
  • Support the NSW team to meet its events targets and mentoring targets (incl. 1+ event per month)
  • Work closely with, support and deputise for the State Director
