Memory Walk & Jog 2020

Dementia Australia
Logo for Dementia Australia

Dementia is the condition that will have the greatest social and economic impact on our time. There are nearly half a million people in Australia with dementia, with this number steadly increasing every year; our services have never been in higher demand. For this reason Memory Walk & Jog is not only a vital fundraising drive for Dementia Australia, it is also an opportunity to raise community awareness, promote the importance of healthy lifestyles and encourage the community to come together in a fun and active way to make a difference for people impacted by dementia.

This year's Adelaide Memory Walk & Jog event will be held at Colley Reserve, Glenelg on Sunday 29th March. We need volunteers on the day from 6:00am to midday in a variety of different roles. I encourage you to volunteer for the event, and invite your family, friends and colleagues to join you.

No special skills, experience or training is required – just your presence and your enthusiasm. Some tasks may include directing and encouraging participants around the course, handing out cups of water, assisting with registrations, selling merchandise and handing out fundraising packs so there is a job to suit you!

We’ll provide an online briefing the week of the event and in person briefing on the morning of the event so you can learn all about the task assigned to you. You will receive a volunteer certificate after the event season for your tremendous contribution!

Some of last year’s volunteers have described their experience as “extremely enjoyable” and said their “spirits were lifted by being in the presence of like-minded people” whilst knowing that they were helping to increase public awareness of dementia.

Employer and Other Details Dementia Australia represents more than 436,000 Australians living with dementia and the estimated 1.5 million Australians involved in their care. We are an important advocate for those impacted by dementia and due to our close engagement with consumers, we provide input on policy matters and identify service gaps. We draw on our expertise to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including researchers, technology experts, and providers. We provide support services, education and information aimed at addressing the gaps in mainstream services.
