Leisure Buddy (friendship role)

Inclusion Melbourne
Logo for Inclusion Melbourne

Duties will include going on regular fortnightly outings with your buddy and maintaining regular contact with your supervisor. No prior experience is required. Training and supervision are provided. Inclusion Melbourne has a long history of providing support to adults with an intellectual disability. We believe that people with a disability should be able to live in an inclusive community, supported by people who genuinely care for them, and have the same opportunities to participate in community life. Although our office is located in Armadale, your volunteering will not take place in Armadale as we will match you with a buddy in reasonable proximity to where you live. The time you spend with your buddy will enrich your buddy's life by reducing loneliness and will enrich your life by you giving back to the community, making a new friend, possibly challenging yourself and having fun! All applicants must be over 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to provide a minimum 12 month commitment. Ongoing, long term commitment beyond 12 months is preferred and encouraged as this helps provide continuity. All applicants will be required to attend an initial one hour group information session. All applicants will need to attend a one-to-one interview. A Police Check, a Disability Workers Exclusion Scheme check, and phone calls to 2 professional referees will be conducted by Inclusion Melbourne. *An International Police Check or Statutory Declaration is required for applicants who have resided overseas for 12 months or more in the last 10 years.
