Board responsibilities are to:

  • Abide by the organisation’s Vision, Mission and Values Statements
  • Fulfil the requirements as documented in all Funding Agreements
  • Work with external organisations in accordance with any Memorandum of Understanding
  • Manage the organisation in a professional manner and in accordance with recognised governance standards
  • Support the efforts of all staff and volunteers of the organisation
  • Promote the Organisation and its functions

The role of a board member involves the following:

  • Work towards and within the Objectives of the Association
  • Provide strategic direction for the organisation
  • Identify strategic risks for the organisation and its business
  • Adhere to the Constitution and comply with the NT Associations Act
  • Monitor the conduct and performance of the organisation
  • Ensure appropriate policies and procedures are in place so that the activities and decision making of the organisation are conducted in a transparent, efficient and ethical manner
  • Ensure that appropriate financial planning processes are in place and monitor ongoing financial performance
  • Set a clear budget each year which takes into consideration the activities documented in the Strategic and Business Plan.
  • Monitor, maintain and update the Association’s assets.
  • Appoint the necessary employees to carry out the day to day management of the organisation and the delivery of services
  • Advocate for the interest of all victims of crime within the public and private sectors • of the community

Role Requirements:

  • Governance experience in NFP settings would be ideal.
  • Effective communication skills and personal values that are aligned with those of the organisation.
  • A willingness to stay informed about victim issues and needs, and to develop strategic responses to these.
  • National Police Clearance
