Working with young vulnerable Australians to develop a positive attitude towards work in the work program of horticulture, landscaping & gardening. While also developing the students communication skills in a team environment.

About the role The Glen is seeking volunteers for our daily work program which runs 4 days a week from 10am to 12pm. The work program creates an opportunity for clients who don’t have much experience to develop a positive attitude towards work and learn how to communicate in a team environment. The Glen hopes the boys can carry that attitude and work ethic with them when it’s time to step back into society. We are seeking volunteers to support the work program who have the following skills: Horticulture, landscaping and gardening Cooking and hospitality Computer and administration Woodwork Construction and handyman skills Teaching Cleaning The Glen is also seeking volunteers with office skills to support in administration, IT and filing. Anyone with website, graphic design or computing experience is encouraged to apply. Minimum requirements: Administration and IT skills (Microsoft Outlook Email & Calendar) to fit in with the team Patience and ability to teach clients Great communication skills (oral and written) Open-mindedness and ability to listen and learn Positive and non-judgemental attitude Ability to work independently, to plan, prepare and be organised What to expect The Glen is a very unique work environment. We work with vulnerable Australians who have fallen through the cracks of society. Some of our clients are institutionalised, come from broken families and suffer from mental health issues. You can expect to hear inappropriate language from time to time. There will be difficult days so you will require patience, compassion, understanding and will need to tailor teaching methods according to the client. The Glen is a planned and process-driven organisation, and you will be expected to use technology such as Microsoft Outlook email and calendars, Google to-do lists and Whatsapp to communicate with the team. There are times when things don’t go to plan, so expect the unexpected and be prepared to be flexible and dynamic. Honesty is one of our values, so you can also expect honest feedback from other staff members when things can be done better. The Glen is an ambitious organisation, accredited under QIP and strives to continuously improve. Hours Volunteers are required to be available 9:30am to 12:30pm on Monday to Wednesday (Volunteers can choose which day they are available but are expected to commit to that day).
