Organisational Overview

Located on the Brisbane River at the southern end of South Bank Parklands, the Queensland Maritime Museum (QMM), attracts more than 40,000 visitors per annum. The Museum is a Brisbane icon as well as an Australian Public Company that was founded in 1971. QMM contains extensive collections of historical maritime artefacts, books, documents and photographs. The collection is displayed to the public in the various galleries and grounds under broad themes including Lighthouses, Navigation, Ship Models, Marine Engines, Vessels, and the Dry Dock.

Primary Purpose of the Role

This position supports the Display Working Group (exhibitions team) and Marketing in developing creative graphic design concepts and solutions for exhibitions, projects, programs, communications, events and publishing.

Key Accountabilities

• Prepare, design, and oversee the production of exhibition environmental graphics, labels, didactic texts, way finding signage, illustrative, digital and information graphic material, and other visual communications, • Develop in accordance with design briefs graphic design concepts including illustrations, mock-ups, layouts and computer-generated visuals for review and approvals. • Ensure all graphic production addresses QMMA’s audience requirements • Maintain, review and update way finding and other related signage, as required. • Design graphics, signage and display panels, including design and layout of text and images, to enable the development of creative and effective displays. • Maintain brand consistency by identifying, creating and maintaining the professional standards of quality in graphic design that reflects the Museum’s brand • Install and dismantle graphics as required.

• Managing resources effectively to meet strategic, corporate and operational goals of the museum in regard to design activities • Working collaboratively with Museum staff who are physically distributed across the site and externally • Remaining ahead of rapidly changing technology available to the graphics and printing industries

Role dimensions Decision making • Is accountable for the delivery of graphic design services working within approved plans, briefs and budgets • Prioritises and manages multiple tasks and demands including matters with critical turnaround times. • Maintains an awareness and familiarity with emerging technologies in order to utilise the tools required to deliver high quality graphic design solutions.
