The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Australian BPD Foundation.

Under the direction of the Chair and the Honorary Treasurer, this position is responsible for performing a variety of bookkeeping and accounting duties, financial record keeping and transactions. Current transactions include accounts payable and maintaining the cash books and bank reconciliations.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Processes monthly payments as required and prepares reports in a timely manner
  • Produces monthly and quarterly cash books for the Directors meetings
  • Reconciles all bank accounts and provides reports to the Chair and Honorary Treasurer and if established State accounts on a monthly basis
  • Ensures that all expenditures are appropriately categorized to accommodate year end reports
  • Alerts the Chair and Honorary Treasurer to past-due accounts and potential account issues in a timely manner
  • Provides recommendations for fund accounting and cyclical expenses
  • Proactively maintains organized filing system for all financial transactions and records
  • Assists in the development and implementation of systems and procedures as needed.
  • Works using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Willing to learn a accounting package such as Zero or MYOB, should it be adopted

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with Excel and experience working in the nonprofit setting
  • Advanced proficiency in bookkeeping
  • Additional proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, communicate clearly and maintain confidentiality
  • Nonprofit experience a plus

Induction and Training: The successful volunteer will meet with the chair and the Foundation's Honorary Treasurer who will also be available to mentor and support the volunteer (by phone, email or in person) as required. The volunteer will be welcome to attend any events if they wish to. The successful volunteer may be required to work from home and use own equipment (such as a laptop/PC).
