If you are looking to gain some experience in managing volunteers, this is a great opportunity. We require a Volunteer Coordinator to help organise groups of volunteers on Sunday afternoons for 5 weeks. Volunteers will walk a pre-selected route in teams of two or three with the objective of counting and photographing all free-roaming cats. Teams will walk approximately 10 km over 2-2.5 hours (normal walking pace).

Volunteers will arrive at the selected site 1 hour before sunset (approximately 5:00 pm) and you will be responsible for a 30-minute induction and training briefing including use of a simple phone app. Cat counting will run from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm.  Teams will be following a map that has been pre-registered in the phone app and walking along pathways through selected streets (in residential and commercial areas). As Volunteer Coordinator you will also walk one of the routes with other volunteers.

Part of your role will be liaising with volunteers during the lead-up to each Sunday counting session, to ensure attendance. You will also require a reliable car to be able to attend the sites at Redbank Plains and Rosewood. Cat counting will commence on 15 March and run until 12 April.

The Community Cat Program is a 5-year project being run in conjunction with key partners such as RSPCA Queensland, with the aim of decreasing the unnecessary euthanasia of healthy cats and kittens in shelters and pounds and the negative effect this has on the mental health of shelter staff.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
