Footsteps Training & Fitness Coach (Perth)

On My Feet
Logo for On My Feet

On My Feet transforms lives.

We assist those at risk of or dealing with, homelessness by providing exercise groups and structured programs aimed at creating pathways to self-sufficiency and improved wellbeing.

Being homeless is more than the absence of shelter and our goal is to empower individuals to drive the changes necessary to get back on their feet.

We offer a hand up, not another handout.

About the Footsteps Program

The Footsteps Program is a 6 month self-development course for 12 chosen participants who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness. During the program, participants undertake weekly educational workshops exploring positive physical and mental health, goal setting, strength identification, leadership, role modelling and preparing them to re-enter the workforce and connect them with job and work experience opportunities.

Concurrently to the weekly workshops, participants train with On My Feet every week to improve their physical and mental well-being and running ability with the aim of travelling to Melbourne in October 2020 to compete in the Melbourne Running Festival.

The program was launched in Perth in 2019 and is On My Feet’s new flagship program. The inaugural program has yielded some extremely positive results, assisting with transitioning participants to self-sufficiency.

The next program, which this role is advertised for, is scheduled for launch in April 2020 and will run for 6 months concluding in October 2020.

About the Role

We are looking to welcome one or two Training & Fitness Coaches to join our Perth volunteer team for the 2020 Footsteps Program.

The successful candidate or candidates will be required to:

  1. Plan and design a training & fitness program

Plan and design an engaging 6 month physical training program which improves a group of 10-12 participants of mixed fitness abilities in the following key areas: o Running distance o Running speed o Weight/fat loss o Strength & conditioning o Overall fitness

Participants will ultimately be training to compete in either the 10km, Half Marathon or Full Marathon at the Melbourne Running Festival in October 2020.

The training program will need to be executed through one mandatory group training session per week whilst including the following:

o Periodic additional training sessions o Individual training sessions for participants to complete in their own time o Cross training and varied training opportunities o Plotted running events to highlight distance milestones.

The mandatory group training sessions can be scheduled around the successful candidate/s, however it is expected that the sessions will be held in the evening during the week at Langley Park for 1-1.5 hours. It is expected that the majority of the 2020 participants will be based in shelter or government accommodation in Perth CBD or surrounding suburbs.

  1. Coordinate and implement training & fitness program

The coach/es will coordinate the approved training program through the abovementioned training sessions. The coach/es will need to lead the majority of the weekly mandatory and optional sessions, with the assistance of other OMF running volunteers.

The ideal candidate/s will be able to leverage contacts in other areas of fitness to help execute different training opportunities to keep training enjoyable and challenging as well as to educate participants on nutrition, preparation and recovery focusses.

Where possible, the coach/es will make themselves available to assist participants on select race event days.

  1. Melbourne Running Festival

The selected candidate/s may be offered the opportunity to travel with the participants to Melbourne in October 2020 for the Melbourne Running Festival.

On My Feet is a 100 per cent volunteer run organisation. We do not have a registered office in Perth so all volunteer work can be completed at home or at an agreed location amongst the team.
