English Conversation Tutor (Volunteer)

Australian Syrian Charity
Logo for Australian Syrian Charity

Purpose of Role English conversation tutors required to help newly arrived refugees, mainly from Syrian backgrounds, improve their English conversation skills to participate in Australian society and increase job prospects.

The Australian Syrian Charity’s English Language Program is one of the programs that empowers and builds the capacity of newly arrived families of refugees, mainly from Syria, to settle in Australia. English conversation sessions are either one-on-one or in small groups. Sometimes this will be allocated related to professional groups, or specific interests of the participants, to best suit their need and purpose.

For those interested there is an option to have a language exchange, which includes 20 mins of Syrian Arabic language conversation for every 40 mins of English conversation.

In return, we offer you the chance to make a real difference in the lives of refugee families who are new to the Melbourne community. The English conversation sessions are a wonderful opportunity for everyday Australians to establish a connection with the Australian-Syrian community, and to help them to feel more comfortable living here in this country. A way of saying "welcome"!
