The program Red Cross supports elderly members of the community to be more independent, to improve their wellbeing and social connection, and to remain living in their local community. We do this by matching volunteers with an older person who lives in residential aged care or their own home and experiences social isolation.

The opportunity This role suits someone over the age of 18 who has a genuine interest in working with elderly people. You must have good communication and listening skills and have empathy for mature aged, disadvantaged and socially isolated people. Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a participant. The visits are relaxed and social in nature, where you might chat together, reminisce, play card games, go out for a coffee or walk. A driver’s licence is preferable but not mandatory, depending on the client's needs.

The impact As a Community Visitor, you’ll brighten the life of someone suffering vulnerability by offering them company and friendship. You can develop a personal connection and make new friends. You will gain new skills whilst giving back to your community.
