About the Role 

As a psychiatrist working in a small team, you will provide high quality health care in the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre Health Program.

About The ASRC The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement. We are an independent not for profit, whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social wellbeing. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia. We are proud to be owned and run by our community of volunteers and supporters. The ASRC employs over 100 staff and depends on 1000 dedicated volunteers to carry out programs that support and empower over 4,000 people seeking asylum each year.

Program: Health

The Health team provides comprehensive primary care services together with specialist clinics including psychiatry, pain management, immunisation and diabetes management to people seeking asylum. Our clients' complex health concerns require multiple consultations across a range of health disciplines. Majority of the people accessing our service have no income and are on Visas denying them work rights and Medicare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assessment and management of the consequences of trauma, torture and forced displacement.
  • Providing ongoing clinical services for people seeking asylum and provide reports to support clients’ protection or humanitarian claims.

Selection Criteria

  • Eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent postgraduate specialist 
  • Professional Indemnity
