Dining Room Companion for The Open Door Dining Room - Volunteering Macarthur
SVDP Nagle CentreDuties & Responsibilities:
- Sit with patrons in a companionable setting and enjoy a cuppa and or a meal
- Occasionally serve/carry a meal to patrons
- Assist patrons making tea and coffee when kitchen is closed between meals
- Occasional light cleaning (wiping down a table or helping to clean up after a spill)
- Provide a calm and welcoming presence for all by sharing friendly conversations
- Gain an understanding of the needs of our patrons through active listening
- Attend volunteer meetings, relevant training days and in-service days as scheduled
- Attend volunteer review sessions with Kitchen Coordinator and or Manager
- Minimum hours per session: Breakfast 9:00 am till 1:00 pm (Mon to Fri) Lunch 12:00pm till 4:00 pm (Mon to Fri) Dinner 5:00 pm till 7:00 pm (Tues and Wed)
Skills
- Understanding of the impact of trauma on vulnerable individuals
- Willingness and ability to accept the limitations and boundaries required
- Ability to relate well to a diverse range of people - patrons, volunteers and staff
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team for the benefit of patrons
- Ability to follow directions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Reliability as a team member
- Understanding of the importance of promoting independence and self-esteem with individual patrons
- Understanding and acceptance of WHS protocols surrounding working with vulnerable people
- Willingness and ability to refer patrons to staff when required
