As a Community Visitor you will visit an older person, who is socially isolated or at risk of becoming socially isolated, on a fortnightly basis at the Aged Care facility to provide them with friendship and companionship. This can be through having a chat and a cuppa, or perhaps playing a board game, reading together, listening to music or taking a short stroll in the grounds.

Through this regular one-to-one visiting wonderful friendships can be formed. These visits from a Community Visitor can help to improve the quality of life of the older person and help them to feel less socially isolated.

Volunteering as a Community Visitor can be a very rewarding experience. By becoming a friend to an older person, you can make a positive difference to their lives as well as your own.

Desirable volunteer characteristics: Patience, flexibility, empathy, respect for the elderly, consideration of ageing conditions and awareness of loss of mobility/ memory/ sight/ hearing or health. An ongoing commitment required to fortnightly visits. Applicants must be 18 years or older. From time-to-time Aged Care facilities can go into lockdown (no outside visitors are allowed in) and during these times our Community Visitors need to adapt and stay connected with their friends through ‘Digital’ Visits (such as video calls via Skype or FaceTime), letter writing/ emailing, phone calls and window visits.

  • Animportant note - A requirement issued by the Federal Government in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is that ALL visitors to aged care facilities in Australia (during the Australian Influenza season) must have a current Flu Vaccination with evidence to be provided.
You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
