Australian Red Cross
Logo for Australian Red Cross
  • Ongoing position
  • Time commitment: full day per month or as required.
  • Please note although we will always try to give the most notice possible, some trips may be required with only a couple of days notice. This may be due to an appointment cancellation and someone being bumped up the list or someone's transport plans have fallen through and need some last minute assistance.

The program Having good social connections and access to essential medical services is imperative, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections, people living with a disability and people recovering from mental illness to help improve their wellbeing.

Red Cross provides a door to door transport service for people who are elderly or living with a disability and have no means of transport to non-urgent (although important) medical appointments.

The opportunity Our ideal volunteer is:

  •  A mature and friendly person with the ability and patience to converse with people who may have trouble communicating such as the elderly or people living with a disability
  •  A current drivers licence
  •  Can commit to a full day at least once a month (or more if available).

This role will assist breaking down the barrier of transport people have on the North West coast to access medical services in Hobart. As well as driving this role includes: working from printed schedules, maintaining the vehicle (i.e. fill out our log book, refuel and report any damage that may occur) and collecting fees and receipting trip fees from clients.

The impact As a Client Transport volunteer, you’ll help improve the quality of life and wellbeing of people who are elderly or living with a disability by connecting them with services they normally would not be able to access due to limited/ no transport options. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network. For more information, please contact Diane Bock, Client Transport program coordinator North West Tasmania on 036431 8294.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are strongly encouraged to apply.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
