Chairperson of the Group Support Committee, is often referred to as the “Group Chairman”.

The Group Chairman supports and assists the Group Leader in running the Group. This is mostly by leading the Group Support Committee to deal with matters of housekeeping, maintenance, accommodation and fund raising and allowing the Group Leader to focus on the delivery of Scouting.

The Group Secretary is appointed to act as secretary to the Group Support Committee to: • provide sound administrative support to the Group • make information received available to members of the Group • keep in contact with the District Secretary • keep such records as the Group Leader and Group Chairman require

The Group Secretary is likely to be involved submitting applications for grants and will look to the Treasurer for support and any necessary data.

The Group Treasurer will work closely with the Group Chairman. Your advice and counsel will be sought on matters of budget and the affordability of various projects. Accurate, up to date and timely reporting of progress against budget and the updated outlook will be a great help to the Chairman.

The Group Support Committee usually meets monthly with a convened an annual meeting at which the audited financial accounts of the Group and the annual reports of the Group Leader and the Group Support Committee are presented. The annual meeting being held as soon as practical after the end of the Scouting year, which finishes on the 31st March.

Most importantly, the Chairman leads, motivates and enthuses the Support Committee in its tasks and actively assists the Group Leader in preparing and pursuing the Group Plan.

The Group Support Committee assists the Group Leader to recruit, retain and support leaders for all Sections of the Group. While establishing and maintaining good relationships with other community organisations and community leaders.
