The Abbotsford Convent is looking for passionate volunteers to assist on a range of children's programs!

Convent Kids is a year-round program developed by the Abbotsford Convent Foundation (ACF) for children and families to explore and create art together. Delivered in collaboration with leading artists and educators, Convent Kids is designed to foster lifelong engagement with the arts and improve educational outcomes by firmly placing children at the centre of arts and cultural activity. For more information about Convent Kids programming, visit our website.

To help us deliver this exciting program, we need the help of volunteers!

We’re looking for volunteers to assist with:

  • Supporting visitor engagement by providing a welcoming environment and exceptional customer service for all visitors, in particular children and families
  • Overseeing the use of workshop equipment and materials, and assisting with the delivery of participatory projects and workshop activities
  • Assisting ACF staff with the set-up, maintenance and pack down of Convent Kids spaces.

We’re after volunteers with:

  • Excellent communication skills and a can do attitude with a proactive approach to tasks
  • A friendly personality and the ability to work in a respectful and encouraging manner with children and families.
  • A Working with Children’s Check (this can be obtained online for free).

Volunteering at Convent Kids is a great opportunity to gain experience, get involved with the Convent community and meet new people. If you have an interest in children’s programming, contemporary art programming, participatory projects, arts and culture – or if you’d just like to help out – please register your interest.

Some more details about these events:

Sapling School

Join an outdoor expedition for curious kids and their adults and explore the Convent’s sprawling heritage gardens, get those hands dirty, and rediscover the great outdoors through play. Through singing, storytelling and hands-on activities, kids will learn about the seasons, ecosystems, organic gardening and the custodians of the land and water where the classes take place — the Wurundjeri people.

Create for Change Banner Making Workshop

Inspired by young activists that have banded together in the fight for climate action, this intergenerational banner-making workshop will empower young people and their grown-ups to shape the world they want, and harness the power of art and creativity to make their voices heard on issues that matter to them.

Triple Threat

Triple Threat draws on karaoke and DIY technology, inviting kids to move, sing and perform with confidence alongside an artist who may not have exceled on stage but has nonetheless embraced being a sidelined extra who is fabulously less than first-rate.

Fountain of Youth by Deep Soulful Sweats

Fountain of Youth is a transcendent journey for little ones incorporating yoga, creative dance, body awareness and inventive play. Spring, shake and stomp upon the hills of fancy footwork and roll down into the valleys of deep lunges. Deep Soulful Sweats is a participatory art dance party and a performance with no spectators.
