Helping Dignity to End Homelessness

Dignity provides emergency accommodation, food, clothing and advocacy to people experiencing homelessness in NSW. We have emergency accommodation houses in various city and regional centres. Our volunteers celebrate with us our mission to end homelessness. This is where you fit in. We need help at one of our centres in the Hornsby area to get the laundry done. You may not think this is a very superior kind of volunteering, but at Dignity the personal comfort and cleanliness of each and every one of our houses is key to offering dignity to another person, especially someone who is experiencing homelessness.  Not only do we provide brand new and top quality beds and furnishings, but we offer thick, crisp and clean linen (including fluffy towels) to increase the comfort for each of our guests. This is what you might be able to do for us: 1. Arrive at our laundry site (just a normal laundry in a normal house) regularly and consistently when you are rostered on (unless you would like to take over this whole operation yourself!); 2. Check in with Senior Support Worker; 3. Estimate what is to be done during your shift; 4. Load up the washing machine(s); 5. Wait for the washing to be done and unload; 6. Put in the next load of washing; 7. Load up the clothes dryer safely; 8. Unload the clothes dryer; 9. Fold the clean items and place on the laundry shelf in order. 10. Repeat the above.
