About the Role

The Maintenance / Gardening role is to maintain, develop and revive the gardens and building. Ensuring that they are well presented and the garden and its surroundings are maintained in a safe, tidy and aesthetically pleasing environment.

The Maintenance and Gardening Assistant provides support to ensure the property is safe and enjoyable for all community members, staff, volunteers and Officers.  Attention and adherence to the appropriate protocols and policies is an important part of the role.  Safety and well-being of self and others is vital and there is a requirement to identify and report hazards and incidents when they occur. A reasonable level of fitness is required to perform the inherent requirements of this role.

This role requires a commitment of one to two days per week in consultation with the Corps Officer or site manager.

Key Activities

• Weeding, mulching, planting, replanting, digging, potting and repotting of plants
• Mowing of lawns,  pruning of hedges, clipping of plants
• Watering of lawns and garden beds
• Assist with basic repairs and small maintenance projects·
• Clean and maintain car park, paths and grounds·
• Ensure windows, tables and carpets are cleaned and free from hazards
• Undertake general maintenance activities including basic repairs, replacements, adjustments and cleaning of the buildings fittings, fixtures, car park, building and grounds.
• Appropriate uses of Personal Protection Equipment at all times
• Monitor and address any health and safety concerns within the premises

Qualifications & Experience Requirements for the Role

• Experience in maintenance and gardening preferred but not essential

Mandatory Requirements of the Role

• Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
• Current Criminal History Check (Police check) required
• Complete TSA induction modules and any other training as required
