Meals on Wheels is a name familiar to Australians and is at the heart of many communities. It represents helping hands, teamwork and looking out for each other. It is all about people in the community joining forces to help others.

Whilst age and disability may reduce some people’s capacity to get out and about, Meals on Wheels help make it possible for them to stay in their homes, where most are happiest, and maintain their independence. Delivery of nutritious meals, social interaction and a friendly check of a client’s well being by Meals on Wheels volunteers can help people live the lives they choose.

We are looking to appoint a Volunteer Marketing/Social Media Assistant to help North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels update their social media page, assist with content creation and image sourcing, and schedule content particularly Facebook and YouTube. You will also be the brand champion, and create new marketing materials and presentations, and update website content as required.

Reporting to the Manager, you will work collaboratively to build communities, improve brand awareness and engagement as well as expanding the presence of our North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels in the community.

You may be a marketing/communication student or recent graduate, or social media enthusiast looking to work with a professional, friendly and passionate team who are making a positive difference. This may be your stepping stone to paid employment in Australia, or a practical way that you can give back to society.

The Marketing/Social Media Assistant will undertake the following tasks:

  • Write articles/stories from North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels
  • Schedule and organise content for social media in a content calendar
  • Post relevant stories and content according to the North Shoalhaven Meals on Wheels social media policy
  • Contribute to developing a new volunteer pack consisting of various resources 
  • Report on/respond to online discussions where appropriate.
  • Update website content as required
  • Develop posters and brochures adhering to the brand guidelines
  • Approach local businesses for support
  • Be a brand champion and occasionally present within the local community
  • Other relevant tasks as required.

Selection criteria (desirable):

  • Experience in writing content, publishing, marketing or social media
  • Experience managing multiple social media platforms
  • Strong understanding of social media trends as relevant to NFP sector
  • Experience using Adobe InDesign and Photoshop, as well as Canva to create marketing collateral
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Reliable and organised, with excellent attention to detail and ability to work to deadlines
  • Has a proactive approach
  • Has good telephone manner

Hours:

The Marketing/Social Media Assistant volunteer is required for approx. 6 hours per week. You will work from our office on East Nowra initially, but then have the flexibility to work from home once fully briefed, with fortnightly or monthly meetings to update on projects. We ask for a minimum commitment of six months.
