A core value of The Salvation Army ("TSA") is to support the basic needs of individuals experiencing disadvantage and communities in times of disaster.  The Maintenance and Gardening Assistant provides support to ensure the property is safe and enjoyable for all community members, staff, volunteers and Officers.  Attention and adherence to the appropriate protocols and policies is an important part of the role.  Safety and well-being of self and others is vital and there is a requirement to identify and report hazards and incidents when they occur.

Key Activities

• Weeding, mulching, planting, replanting, digging, potting and repotting of plants·
• Mowing of lawns, pruning of hedges, clipping of plants
• Watering of lawns and garden beds ·
• Assist with basic repairs and small maintenance projects·
• Clean and maintain car park, paths and grounds·
• Ensure windows, tables and carpets are cleaned and free from hazards
• Assist with maintenance and monitoring of septic system 
• Appropriate uses of Personal Protection Equipment at all times 
• Monitor and address any health and safety concerns within the premises

Qualifications & Experience Requirements for

the Role

• Experience in maintenance and gardening essential•
• Professional qualifications in landscaping, tree care (arborist), property maintenance, or similar highly regarded

Mandatory Requirements of the Role

• Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
• Current Criminal History Check (Police check) required
• Complete TSA induction modules and any other training as required
