HOME AND GARDEN MAINTENANCE VOLUNTEER

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Furniture and Fittings: undertake repairs to broken chair backs, tables etc. External Maintenance: undertake repairs to gates, latches, fence palings, and damaged pathways/steps, loose railings. Undertake one off yard & rubbish clearance, installation of key lock boxes, Touch up painting, routine maintenance & furniture and equipment movement and Ad hoc repairs. Lawn & Garden Maintenance: undertake Access pruning & hedging, lawn mowing, weeding, edging, mulching, garden tidies, rubbish removal & routine equipment maintenance. Other Tasks & Duties: Contribute planning ideas and constructive feedback to BBCR program support worker on garden and home maintenance activities, Prepare materials and pre-fabrication of required project elements for specific projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES Garden & Home Maintenance - Plant identification knowledge, Pest & plant disease control experience, experience using self-propelled mowers; push mowers, edger’s and any other relevant equipment as directed by the supervisor, light home maintenance experience. Qualities and Attitudes - Volunteers must have a willingness to learn, Have reliable attendance on rostered days to support service activities & provide timely notification to supervisor of non-attendance. Have a tactful and caring approach. Be committed to working constructively as part of a team.  Have a positive attitude to the care of older people, respecting their rights and independence. Have the ability to follow instructions and take direction & be committed to treatingothers with dignity and respect. Have an understanding & respect of culturally diverse communities. Have a high level of communication and interpersonal skills. Communication & Interpersonal skills– Volunteers undertaking this role must have a good level of business communication skills & interpersonal skills. They must have the ability to treat others with dignity and respect, be non judgmental & culturally appropriate. Physicality – While performing this role, the volunteer is frequently required to undertake manual task handling tasks including pushing, lifting, bending, squatting etc.  The role also requires volunteers to predominately work outdoors and may be required to volunteer in fluctuating and adverse conditions and heat. Commitment & attitude –Volunteers undertaking this role must bepunctual and reliable, have a tactful and caring approach. Be committed to working either constructively as part of a team or independently with a positive attitude.  Volunteers are required to as soon as practicable advise their direct supervisor of absences or leave in order to minimise disruption to service provision.

Becoming a Volunteer: Contact the Community Engagement Manager on 02 44439244 to arrange an interview and receive a volunteer application pack. Once you have completed the relevant forms, the CEM will process your application and you will be notified of the outcome and invited to attend an Organisation Orientation. Please be aware that BBCR reserves the right to decline a volunteer applicant if they either declare prior to the application process or it is listed on the Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check a disclosable outcome which contravenes the requirements for volunteering under the Police Certificate Guidelines 2017, funding agreements and internal policies.
