The Salvation Army Perth Doorways program is heavily active in the local community providing a place for people to access food and other material aid assistance. The Community Collections Volunteer Driver role is a vital component of facilitating the collection of groceries and other items from supermarkets and farms in the local area.  We're looking for a cheerful and responsible volunteer driver who loves people and helping others.

About the role. This volunteer role facilitates the collection of items for material aid assistance from various locations around the local area.  Fresh fruit and vegetables are vital in ensuring The Salvation Army Perth Doorways has a balanced and healthy range of food on offer for those experiencing hardship and crisis and this weekly collection service assists to ensure that those experiencing hardship can receive quality groceries.  This role is ideal for those who are organised and keen to help people in their time of need.  This is your chance to make a real difference to the lives of our most disadvantaged with the desired outcome of safe transportation of goods to/from The Salvation Army Perth.

Attention to road safety, reliability and ensuring the vehicle is kept clean and in good condition are a must.

The Volunteer driver role requires;

  • applicants to have a good driving history and a current/valid drivers licence in WA
  • ability to lift donated goods into and out of The Salvation Army Perth Doorways van and ability to load and unload The Salvation Army Doorways van safely
  • cleaning and refueling of vehicle
  • punctuality and reliability
  • good interpersonal skills and willingness to work with people from a diversity of backgrounds
  • ability and willingness to work singly or in a small team
  • a willingness to work within the ethos and values of The Salvation Army

Integrity checks, completion of TSA induction modules, volunteer registration process and training will be required for this role. A valid drivers licence and good driving history are a requirement of this role. A reasonable level of fitness is required to perform the inherent requirements of this role. This role requires collections to take place Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 8 am to 12 noon. However it is suitable as a shared role for suitable applicants.
