The program Having good social connections are essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports older people who live alone or who have few social connections, people with disability and people recovering from mental illness to help improve their wellbeing. Red Cross provides a door to door transport service for people who are elderly or have disability and have no means of transport to non-urgent medical appointments or social outings.

The opportunity This role suits someone over the age of 18 who has a Full Australian Drivers Licence and can commit to at least one full weekday per month. Volunteer drivers are responsible for the safe and courteous vehicle transportation of frail aged and /or disabled people who are socially isolated or transport disadvantaged and have no access to other means of transport. Volunteers will be responsible for following schedules, maintaining a friendly and professional manner and ensuring clients are transported safely to their appointments. Volunteers are responsible for maintaining records of activities and reporting any concerns or issues to Red Cross Supervising Staff.

The impact As a Patient Transport volunteer, you’ll help improve the quality of life and wellbeing of people who are elderly or have disability by connecting them with services in their local community.
