The model ensures everyday Australians in distress or in need are assisted, while simultaneously reducing waste. You can be a part of this by volunteering just a few hours per week as a Family Store Truck Driver.

For insurance purposes, the successful applicant must hold a current and full licence, with a good driving history. The applicant should also be capable of assisting with moving heavy items, and demonstrate maturity and responsibility.

Key Tasks of the Role

  • Safely operate TSA vehicle and ensure the safety of self, other passengers and other road users
  • Operate in a manner that promotes and maintains the reputation and profile of TSA
  • Ensure the TSA vehicle is safe for operating
  • Complete daily schedules of pick-up and deliveries
  • Complete administrative component of schedules
  • Assist team in inspecting donations for quality
  • Load and unload all items safely
  • Interact with donors positively
  • Positively represent TSA at all times Help maintain TSA vehicles
  • Donations are sorted and categorised
  • Ensure any valuables found within donations are reported to the store manager or line supervisor
  • Some heavy lifting will be required with this role
  • Monitor and rectify any health & safety concerns within the work environment
  • Where unable to address an issue escalate to the supervisor/ manager.

Qualifications and experience requirements for the Role

  • Current Open Drivers Licence (manual)
  • Experience driving a small truck
  • Experience in customer service or retail preferred, but not essential
  • Experience in a similar role advantageous, but not essential

Mandatory Requirements of the Role

  • Willingness to undertake The Salvation Army’s Criminal History Record Check (at the organisation’s expense)
  • Must maintain a valid Driver Licence for the duration of the role
  • Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
  • Complete mandatory TSA induction modules and any other training as required

Time Commitment

  • Ideally able to regularly volunteer 2 shifts a week for three months (renewable at the agreement of both parties)
  • Hours to be negotiated with line manager
