The Boroondara Volunteer Resource Centre is advertising this role on behalf of Australian Borderline Personality Disorder.

Bring your marketing and event management skills to this not-for profit organisation. This is a project role with an immediate start.

Tasks and Responsibilities: -Take a leadership role to assist the Australian BPD Foundation to plan and run events - in particular its 9th Annual National Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) Conference 13-15th November 2019 including obtaining event sponsors and/or identify new sources of funding support (including government, philanthropic trusts and corporate sponsors

  • Oversight of event promotion via digital channels, media agencies and other promotional organisations
  • Provide ongoing event content to the webmaster for the conference website and social media
  • Manage registrations, provision of invoices, respond to queries and action other event requirements to ensure the provision of a professional conference
  • General administration support for the conference and related event activities
  • Assistance on the event days by undertaking required tasks and assisting coordinating tasks undertaken by volunteers

Skills and Experience:

  • Leading and managing event related tasks for similar conferences with 2-300 delegates.
  • A flexible approach to handling event arrangements to accommodate the needs of a variety of delegates; with lived experience of BPD, their families and clinicians.
  • Creating and managing online event registration eg TryBooking or Eventbrite.
  • Obtaining quotes and managing orders
  • Ability to work as part of a team of volunteers who are mainly available out of business hours
  • High level of empathy and sensitivity - a personal understanding of the issues related to living with or supporting someone with a mental illness is highly desirable
  • Ability to solve problems as they arise and remain focussed and calm under the stress of common constraints (such as limited resources)
  • Enthusiastic about volunteering and the event, and sharing a positive mindset with others
  • Knowledge of social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
  • Tracking basic Excel schedules and budgets

Training and Induction:

  • The successful volunteer will meet with the 2 board members overseeing the planning of the conference who will also be available to mentor and support the volunteer (by phone, email or in person) as required
  • It is anticipated that the person will attend planning meetings preferably in person though remotely is available if needed
  • The successful volunteer may be required to work from home and use own equipment (such as a laptop/PC). Hours flexible - if available may be required to work increased hours in the week of the conference to assist with preparation and closure of conference
