Digital Community Visitors Service

The DCVS is an easy way for you to benefit the community and improve people’s quality of life. The program is federally funded and works to connect socially isolated seniors with volunteers for regular social interaction.

Isolation and loneliness are two of the biggest problems facing individuals and communities, especially in our aging population. Research shows that people who maintain social relationships live longer, healthier and more fulfilled lives.

The Digital Community Visitors Service (DCVS) is an initiative of Aurous, where isolated elderly people are given call ready computer tablets and participate in a weekly video call with a volunteer “video visitor”.

The program has proven to be very popular with clients and extremely rewarding for volunteers. Because of the strong demand for video calls NAC needs more volunteer video callers.

As little as half an hour a week can make a significant difference to someone’s life.

Very little training is needed, but we will provide full training in how to Skype, what to talk about and how to be an effective part of the Digital Community Visitors team.

There are no costs involved you will just require a good internet connection as this is used during video calling and phone call costs, which will depend on your telecommunications plan.

Ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference just by giving someone the time of day.The Community Visitors’ Scheme is a federally funded program, established to promote links between people living in an aged care homes or the wider community.

Our volunteer visitors pay personal visits to these clients.

We are looking for volunteer visitors who have the following qualities: a. Presents well b. Able to visit a lonely resident or a small group of residents c. Reliable d. Good communication and listening skills e. Able to engage in small talk and conversation starters f. Empathy and consideration for the elderly residents
