A not for profit organisation that provides transportation services to the frail aged, people with disabilities, their Carers and people that are transport disadvantaged, are seeking Volunteers to participate as interpreters for their CALD Community Engagement Project.

The Community Engagement Project aims to engage culturally and linguistically diverse communities in the Liverpool area with the transport services offered by this Organisation. This will involve conducting focus groups with CALD clients and potential clients and requires bilingual interpreters to facilitate this.

About The Role:

Provide support and assistance to team members with tasks including (but not limited to):

  • Translating relevant documentation into specific community languages
  • Providing interpretation face to face and over telephone for specific community languages
  • Providing culturally appropriate support during interactions with (CALD) clients in focus groups and information sessions
  • Undertaking filing, photocopying, archiving, scanning, telephone calls as required
  • Undertake Human Resource activities as directed by the Operations Manager
  • Undertake CALD Community Engagement Project activities as directed by the CALD Community Engagement Officer
  • Time commitment of 1 or 2 days (Monday-Thursday), between 9am and 4pm, for a period of 12 months

About You:

  • Ability to speak read and write proficiently in at least one of the identified community languages - Vietnamese, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish or Assyrian Neo Aramaic
  • Cross cultural communication skills
  • Ability to volunteer as a constructive team member
  • Demonstrated administration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage time and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and negotiation skills
  • Ability to take direction
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and show initiative
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Work Health and Safety requirements pertinent to working in an office environment
  • Knowledge of the Campbelltown, Camden, Wollondilly, Fairfield and Liverpool Local Government Areas (desirable)
