Pottery/Ceramics Helper
Vision AustraliaAssist clients in a hand built pottery program!
Support blind and low vision clients to develop and complete individual hand built pottery items. You will be working alongside another volunteer in the pottery program under the guidance of Recreation staff.
Duties include:

Teach basic hand building methods to clients, including slab, pinch pot and coil techniques.

Adapt projects to each client’s abilities, discuss projects with clients that they might like to try as well and support clients to work independently.

Help with set up and clean up of pottery table, pottery equipment and materials.

Keep track of pottery supplies and notify staff when materials need to be reordered.

Greet clients, serve morning tea and lunch and assist other volunteers with clean-up.

Assist clients around the centre, including elderly clients. This may involve guiding a client to their table for morning tea or to their respective areas for program activities.
Skills and Knowledge:

Some experience in ceramics and a knowledge of clay hand building techniques and glazing.

Good communication skills and ability to work within a supportive team of staff and volunteers.
