The Food Room Volunteer role is ideal for those who are organised and compassionate in dealing with people in their time of significant need. This is your chance to help The Salvation Army ACH Doorways make a real difference to the lives of our most disadvantaged in our community.

The Food Room Assistant helps to maintain a clean and sorted food room, and to help with packing food donations as they arrive.

Key Activities

  • Providing friendly customer service
  • Unload the truck, unpack boxes and stock shelves according to  instructions·
  • Check use by dates of food stock and dispose of expired stock·
  • Prepare food packs in line with customer orders as required·
  • Prepack emergency parcels (where required)·
  • Check the fridge to ensure appropriate food temperatures are maintained·
  • Defrost the fridge at regular intervals
  • Undertake general cleaning and sanitizing of shelves, floors, benches

Attention to maintaining a clean, safe, hygienic and healthy work environment is critical. Safety and well-being of self and others is vital and there is a requirement to identify and report hazards and incidents when they occur.

This is a great role for school leavers and those looking for something to do for a few hours a couple of days a week.

Mandatory Requirements Of The Role

  • Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
  • Food Handling Certificate
  • Complete TSA induction modules  and any other training as required
  • Current  Criminal History Check (Police check) required

Some heavy lifting required.
