Habitat for Humanity Australia (HFHA) is part of Habitat for Humanity, a leading global non-profit working in more than 70 countries to help people obtain safe and decent housing, along with the strength, stability and independence to build better lives.  HFHA supports poverty reduction projects across Asia, including multi-year projects focused on shelter, urban, community empowerment and disaster risk reduction. HFHA conducts Global Village teams particularly in South Asia whereby committed, engaged and passionate volunteers donate their time to help build a house for a family in need. HFHA works closely with our domestic Affiliate partners – HFHNSWQ, HFHSA and HFHV.

THE POSITION: Are you keen to help out? Do you have a professional background in law, risk, compliance, policy work, administration, audit or other?  Are you familiar with the ACFID Code of Conduct? HFHA, based in North Sydney, has a total of 15 head office staff and welcomes volunteers to assist with a range of projects. There is currently a need for a review of all our policies to determine the underlying compliance requirements, the source of any particular obligations, the risk assessment and risk appetite for each policy and whether the policies apply to our Affiliate related organisations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing legislation, ACFID Code of Conduct, HFH International policies to determine requirements which must be included in HFHA policies
  • Interpreting and documenting compliance requirements in all HFHA policies
  • Drafting a risk appetite statement for each policy
  • Liaising with the CEO, senior managers and Company Secretary on policy matters
  • Preparing a detailed spreadsheet/register with all the key policy, risk and compliance information.

HFHA is looking for the following skills:

  • Knowledge and experience in risk management, policy work, law or audit would be ideal
  • Enthusiastic, organised and hardworking
  • Good attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision
  • Ensure a high level of confidentiality and trust
  • A person with an enthusiastic, positive manner who is self-motivated, proactive, and who has an empathy with the values of Habitat for Humanity
