Community Visitor – Bethesda Aged and Residential Care

As a community visitor volunteer you will assist with the Leisure & Lifestyle Program in accordance with The Salvation Army mission, vision and values at Bethesda Aged Care Facility - Rockhampton, across a range of activities according to the needs of residents and as directed by the Leisure & Lifestyle Coordinator.

A Community Visitor Volunteer provides companionship and friendship to a socially isolated older person living in a residential care facility. Community Visitor Volunteers are matched to a participant according to their shared interests and are essential members of the team.

The role requires commitment to the visitation service, providing visitations to meet residents individual needs as per their care plans. Community Visitors undertake activities which are appropriate to the participant. This may include listening to music together, playing cards or board games or simply having a chat over a cup of coffee. You will be able to demonstrate empathy with the elderly and previous experience working with older people in a  comparable setting.

The willingness and ability to work within a team environment, form good relationships with staff, residents and their families and work within the mission and values of The Salvation Army are all essential to success in this role.

The successful candidate will also possess a good understanding of the importance of maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Experience and/or training in similar roles desirable but not essential such as Certificate III in Aged Care.

Mandatory requirements of this role are to fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process, induction and training. Integrity checks will be a requirement of this role.

The Community Visitor Volunteer role is suited to someone looking to make a difference in the lives of others in their community, or to a person wanting to gain experience in the industry.

Time requirement is minimum 3 hours per fortnight. This is an ongoing role with a commitment of  at least 6 months to facilitate effective engagement and relationship with program participants. Various shifts available, days and times negotiable.
