Inclusion Melbourne provides support to people with a disability to live fulfilling lives in the community. We are seeking a kind and empathetic counsellor who is confident in supporting and relating to a woman in her early 60's who has an intellectual disability. This woman lives in a group home in Box Hill North.  This home is a very busy one with no private areas, so the counselling would ideally take place at a quiet local café, library area or similar.  Being a driver and having use of a car would be essential for this role.

If you are interested, the counselling sessions would be held fortnightly between 3.30 - 4.30 pm on either Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, or in the afternoons on Saturdays or Sundays.   The volunteer for this position must have patience, good communication skills, sensitivity, flexibility, and be able to demonstrate commitment to working with an adult with an intellectual disability.

You MUST have qualifications, with a minimum of 3 - 4 years university based study in this area, and be able to volunteer your time for a minimum period of 12 months. The volunteer counsellor for this particular position needs to be able to develop a trusting relationship with this woman, and take the time to build a good rapport with her, prior to advancing into the area of counselling sessions.

You will be provided with support from Inclusion Melbourne staff, other volunteer counsellors, and will be encouraged to attend quarterly counsellor peer support meetings which are held in our Armadale office.

Apply now if you are genuine, fully qualified, and are definite that you can provide regular counselling support for at least one year at a mutually agreeable time and place. Join Inclusion Melbourne's wonderful team of volunteer counsellors and help to make a difference in people's lives!

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
