Community Visitor Volunteer – Tweed Heads

Australian Red Cross
Logo for Australian Red Cross
  • Ongoing/flexible
  • 1-2 hrs per week/fortnight

The program Having good social connections is essential for all aspects of health and wellbeing, especially as we age. Red Cross supports elderly members of the community to be more independent, to improve their wellbeing and social connection, and to remain living in their local community. We do this by matching volunteers with an older person who lives at home and experiences social isolation or a small group setting. Red Cross social connection programs match those who are not in regular social contact with a caring and friendly volunteer. These programs include home visits, social outings and group activities.

The opportunity This role suits someone over the age of 18 who is a good listener. If you can commit to 1-2 hours a week/fortnight for a social visit to an elderly person where you might chat together, reminisce, listen to music, read the newspaper or play card games; this is the role for you.

The impact As a Social Support Volunteer, you’ll brighten the life of someone suffering vulnerability by offering them company and friendship. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.

For more information, contact Marilee Campbell on (07) 5524 5799.
