Looking for an opportunity to make a difference in the community? Love engaging with others and have a desire to combat social inclusion? Riverview Gardens Aged Care Plus is currently recruiting passionate new team members to their Volunteer Community Visitor program.

Purpose of the Role

 A Community Visitor Volunteer provides companionship and friendship to a person living in a residential care facility. Community Visitor Volunteers can be matched to a participant according to their shared interests, or given the opportunity to support a group of residents through an activity.

 Personal Qualities/Attributes Required for Role

 •      Is reliable, trustworthy, patient, credible and truthful and displays integrity in all dealings •       Remains calm and focused on the task at hand when faced with crises and difficult situations and maintains appropriate self-care •        Respects differences and is non-judgemental of clients, staff or other volunteers •        Actively supports agreed policies and decisions •        Encourages and cooperates with others to achieve common TSA goals •        Shows empathy for all clients and ensures that the needs of the client remain the key focus

 •       Listens attentively, is courteous and adapts style to clients •        Models and promotes teamwork and collaboration •        Respects differences in culture, styles and views of others and respectfully provides own point of view •         Identifies and analyses client needs and respects boundaries and limits of own role and capabilities •          Prioritises and performs role and responsibilities efficiently •          Understands the impact of decisions and acts to resolve issues promptly

Role Required Tasks

Key tasks of the Role include visiting to meet individual or group needs as per care plans and undertaking activities that are appropriate to the participant or group. This may include listening to music together, running a gardening activity, playing cards or board games or simply having a chat over a cup of coffee.

Qualifications and experience requirements for the Role

A demonstrated empathy with the elderly and experience working as part of a team environment is highly regarded.

Mandatory requirements of the Role

  • Fully complete The Salvation Army's volunteer registration process
  • Criminal History (Police Check) Check required*
  • Complete TSA induction modules and any other training as required
