Pet Assistance and Wellbeing (PAWS)

  • Paws volunteers travel to the home of PAWS participants where they commit 1-2 hours weekly or fortnightly to a client and its pet.

  • Pet care most commonly includes dog walking but volunteers also provide transport, grooming and other support if necessary.

  • Volunteers and participants meet at mutually agreed times and places which are documented in a participant support plan.

  • Volunteers are provided dog walking equipment and will have opportunities to participate in various training sessions organised by Northside throughout the year.

KEY PAWS VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Complete volunteer induction and training.

•Conduct each visit in a professional, competent and caring manner.

  • Complete a monthly report on visitation hours and provide feedback by completing a quarterly evaluation report.

  • Follow all guidelines, policies and procedures provided by Northside.

  • Maintain professional boundaries between yourself and the participant.

  • Uphold the values of commitment and reliability while respecting the confidentiality and privacy of program participants at all times.

  • Contact Northside staff immediately if you have any concerns relating to the health or wellbeing of program participants or their pets.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION

•Ability to work and communicate with a diverse range of people from various backgrounds, including older citizens.

•Ability to work independently and take responsibility for own actions and behaviour and how this impacts on others.
