Cancer Council NSW is a community funded, community focused cancer charity dedicated to working towards a cancer-free future. There are things that we can all do every day to help make this happen.

The Metro region is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic volunteer for the position of CCIS Volunteer at The Northern Beaches Hospital.

The role of the volunteer is to direct cancer patients, carers and their families to appropriate cancer information and services. While not providing counselling or medical advice, as a volunteer you will discuss patients, carers and families’ situation and guide them to relevant information and services. Last financial year Information Service volunteers connected with 32,995 people affected by cancer across NSW. With your support, we hope to be able to help more people.

Our ideal volunteer will:

• Be an excellent communicator and possess exceptional listening skills • Have a flexible approach to helping others and a non- judgemental attitude • Be knowledgeable of or have a willingness to learn about cancer support services available in the community • Have a demonstrated understanding of confidentiality • Be willing to attend all training and debriefing for this role • Be willing undertake a Criminal History Record check • Be willing to undergo vaccinations for specific conditions, as per Department of Health staff policy • Would be available for 5 hours a week
