Community Action in Coochiemudlo Island Conservation

Conservation Volunteers Australia
Logo for Conservation Volunteers Australia

Coochiemudlo Island forms part of an important environmental network within the RAMSAR listed Moreton Bay and provides habitat for a variety of native terrestrial and marine flora and fauna and contains significant cultural heritage values. Despite ongoing weed control programs, pest plants still remain a widespread problem.

Weed control must be applied in a systematic and sensitive way that ensures weeds are replaced with native species rather than other weeds. Partnering with Coochiemudlo Bushcare and Redland City Council, CVA will use this grant to run 11 community volunteer days on Coochiemudlo Island to remove weed infestations from 1km of coastline and replace them with native plant species to prevent weeds from re-establishing.

This project is a great way to network and gain hands on skills for a career in conservation while making a real difference to our environment. Remember to wear long pants, a long sleeved shirt, enclosed shoes, a hat, sunglasses and please bring your lunch and plenty of water.

You can not apply for this role as it is no longer available.
