Administration Support Worker for NILS - Townsville

CommunityGRO is a not for profit organisation providing services and programs to support families and individuals across the Townsville community through our Upper Ross and Garbutt Community Centres.

This volunteer position is for our NILS (No Interest Loan Scheme). NILS provides interest free loans (up to $1500) to low income and credit impaired persons who are not able to access lending through mainstream providers. NILS provides a safe and affordable alternative to Payday lenders and consumer rental leases.

In addition to providing a loan, the NILS program aims to increase financial literacy and capacity of the client. NILS volunteers benefit by increasing their knowledge in budgeting and debt management thereby increasing their own financial capacity. This is a very rewarding program and one of the most important program our organisation delivers. Through the application process we are able to identify other areas where the applicant may benefit from additional support or referrals and encourage applicants to engage with our other programs (where appropriate).

This position would be suitable for someone who is looking for a longer term volunteer position.

Skills/abilities required: Competency in using Mircrosoft Excel and Outlook Email, Ability to read a bank statement Ability to enter data correctly with critical attention to detail Scanning and saving documents Good telephone communication skills (to be able to speak with applicants to obtain/clarify information) Ability to work autonomously (with limited direction)

We are seeking someone who is a quick learner, ability to work autonomously and can put together a snapshot of a persons current financial position based on the information provided.

Depending on skills, tasks can range from basic data entry (using Microsoft Excel and the NILS online portal) through to pre-assessment of loan applications and client interviews, submission of loans and followup through to settlement of loans.

Volunteers will work within a supportive team environment and will experience first hand the benefits of the NILS program. Not only does the NILS program provide access to safe and affordable loans, clients also have access to support services and programs provided by Community GRO, as well as referrals to external support services. NILS is life changing for many of our clients as the holistic support provided addresses not only their immediately need to access funds but also other issues which our staff/volunteers identify during the application process.
