  • Time frame: ongoing (minimum 12 months)
  • Time commitment:  minimum 30 minutes per week

The Program Having good social connections is essential for all aspects of health, especially as we age. Red Cross supports people living at home who have identified as being lonely and who don't have meaningful visits from family or friends. The phone calls made by volunteers have an important impact on the person’s life: enhancing their sense of wellbeing, supporting good physical and mental health, promoting healthy ageing and making them more resilient to life’s knocks and challenges.

The Opportunity This role suits people who are friendly, caring, respectful and have a genuine interest in people, including people with disabilities, people from different cultural back grounds and people with significant health issues. Volunteers for this program must be over 18 years of age and reliable, as regular contact with the participant is important.

The Impact As a TeleCHAT Volunteer Caller, you’ll brighten the life of a lonely and isolated older person by offering them company and friendship. You’ll also gain satisfaction, enjoyment and personal development through your calls. Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the World’s largest humanitarian network.

For more information, please contact Amanda Cruse (03) 6326 0400.
