Do you have a passion for supporting refugee and migrant women? Do you want to make a difference in someone else’s life? Your role as a Social Mentor is vital in promoting the feelings of wellbeing, self-empowerment and confidence to the sister’s that you will support.

**Social Mentor Role - **As a social mentor\, you will provide hands-on practical assistance along with emotional support to help our migrant and refugee Sister’s assimilate more easily into the community in an independent way.

The role of the social mentor can vary from practical tasks to more complex emotional support. The practical role can include everyday activities like

• Assisting with public transport.
• Assisting shopping.
• Paying bills.
• Assisting with medical appointments.
• Seek legal assistance, financial aid or housing assistance
• Supporting families in crisis.

Assisting with establishing links to the community:

• Finding the location of the local library.
• Exploring services offered by the local council such as school holiday activities, recreation centres, etc.
• Finding a local place of worship.
• Educational programs in the local area.
• Linking support services within community groups or social groups.
• Provide insight into the available referral services and choices available to them.

Some of our sisters have experienced extremely traumatic pasts and may need:

• Emotional support.
• Counselling & coaching.
• Confidence building.
• Providing health and wellbeing advice.
• Fostering a sense of self-worth and independence.

Administration requirements include:

• Goal setting & monitoring.
• Follow policies and procedures.
• Prepare referrals to other services when required.
• Monthly case reporting.
• Monthly meetings/ with supervisor support.
